Community services

One of the essential elements contained within the vision of an integrated urban environment for the Doncaster Hill Activity Centre is a community village that is people-focused and provides a range of community services.

The Community Service Infrastructure Doncaster Hill - DCP Justifications Summary Report (1.2Mg) outlines the community services and facilities that will be required in the Doncaster Hill area.

Transport

The Doncaster Hill Strategy aims to create a comprehensive network of pedestrian and cycling paths, as well as link the village to major public transport routes, with easy access to bus facilities connecting the area the to the city and neighbouring suburbs.

Background information relating to transport in Doncaster Hill is available in the following documents:

Pedestrian and cycling links

Council has received funding through the State Government’s Local Area Access Program 2007/08 for the construction of a series of pedestrian and cycling links connecting Precinct 1 with Westfield Doncaster.

This work is part of a wider plan to improve pedestrian and cycling connectivity on the Hill, with other projects, including the Doncaster Hill Boulevard and Public Art Fence and the Underpass upgrade, completed or underway.

Public transport

Doncaster Hill is currently serviced by various bus routes and the Doncaster Park and Ride. In addition, two new bus services are planned for Doncaster Hill, the SmartBus and Doncaster Area Rapid Transit (DART) services.

Implementation of the SmartBus is as follows:

Red Route

  • Stage 1, Mordialloc to Box Hill, started June 2003
  • Stage 2, Box Hill to Altona, to start early 2009

Green Route

  • Stage 1, Chelsea to Nunawading, started 2002
  • Stage 2, Nunawading to Airport West, to start early 2010
  • Stage 3, Airport West to Werribee, to start early 2012

DART will be a network of major arterial bus routes operating at high frequency to the CBD with the assistance of road priority, high quality and off-vehicle amenities. This $82.7 million upgrade is being developed for implementation by mid-2009.

Library

As part of the redevelopment of Westfield Doncaster the facilities of the Doncaster branch of the Whitehorse Manningham Regional Library Corporation will be upgraded and relocated to the Doncaster Hill civic precinct.

As a result the library has temporarily relocated while works at the shopping centre are underway, to 1 Hummell Way, at the rear of the Scout Hall, off JJ Tully Drive behind Council offices.

The temporary library is smaller than the permanent facility, and some services are likely to be slightly modified, although core library services have been maintained.
