Manningham Council has released the Draft Doncaster Hill Pedestrian and Cycling Plan for public comment, which seeks to identify future works to be undertaken and ensure stronger links to public transport.

Recent weeks have also seen a number of further funding announcements for the Doncaster Hill Civic Precinct, with Council reaching its $10 million funding target.

Draft Pedestrian and Cycling Plan on exhibition

The Draft Doncaster Hill Pedestrian and Cycling Plan is now on exhibition, with submissions being accepted until Wednesday 5 August. The purpose of the Plan is to identify future works to be undertaken, ensure stronger links to public transport, and respond to health and social elements of pedestrian and cycling issues and opportunities, and to facilitate the delivery of these works and initiatives through an Action Plan.

A community information session is scheduled for 7.30pm, Thursday 16 July. Contact Council on 9840 9348 or email eepadmin@manningham.vic.gov.au to register for the session.

Council endorses Civic Precinct concept design

At a special meeting on 7 July 2009, Manningham Council endorsed the concept design for Stage 1 of the Doncaster Hill Precinct 1 Masterplan - the development of the Civic Precinct.

The vision for the community building to be constructed in the Civic Precinct as part of Stage 1 is for a approachable, environmentally sustainable and accessible building for all.

$3.3 million received from State Government

The State Government's Department of Planning and Community Development announced in early June it would contribute $3.3 million to the development of the Doncaster Hill Civic Centre community centre building.

The funding will comprise $1.8 million from the planning portfolio for external works such as walking paths, streetscape improvements and furniture, and $1.5 million under the Victorian Community Suppoty Grants Program to be contributed to the development of the community hub.

Smart Energy Zone funding confirmed

Council has secured a $500,000 through Sustainability Victoria's Smart Energy Zone program for the Civic Precinct development.

Council’s Smart Energy Zone project involves the construction of a highly energy efficient Community Centre as part of the Civic Precinct development, which will be connected by a micro-grid to the existing Council Offices and will supply heating, cooling and power generated locally by a gas-fired trigeneration facility.

Money for childcare centre announced

Council has been awarded a further $500,000 to go towards the Civic Precinct development, through the State Government's Children's Capital Program 2008/09. The money will go towards funding the construction of a Children's Centre in the new community centre to be built.

Feedback on Draft Doncaster Hill Precinct 1 Masterplan

A total of 70 submissions were received by Council through the consultation period for the Draft Doncaster Hill Precinct 1 Masterplan, which ended on 15 June 2009.

Overall 56 per cent of respondents said that they were 'Very satisfied' (27 per cent) or 'Somewhat satisfied' (29 per cent) with the direction of the Masterplan. Nineteen per cent said that they were 'Neutral', 14 per cent were dissatisfied and 11 per cent 'Very Dissatisfied'.

A more detailed summary of the submissions ishas been prepared for Council and will be available online in the near future.

Issues Forum meeting, 10 June 2009

The Doncaster Hill Issues Forum met on 10 June 2009 to discuss the Draft Doncaster Hill Pedestrian and Cycling Plan. The group provided ideas and comments around the three key areas of walking, cycling and public transport.
