Westfield works update
18 December 2006
Enabling works at Westfield Doncaster are well
advanced in preparation for the proposed commencement of the revitalisation
of the shopping centre in mid-January 2007:
- on-site construction worker amenities are being
installed on the west side of the rooftop carpark this week;
- building of a power substation is complete on
the former Village Twin Cinemas site where a proposed multi-deck carpark
will be created;
- other new power substations (grey brick structures)
have been built on-site;
- excavation and piling on the west side of Tower
St is continuing, including on the former parking area near the Goodson
St entrance;
- Centre carpark access from the southeast is
via Council and Goodson Sts. Relocation of the power under the east
side footpath in Tower St has been completed, with most of the path
re-paved up to Doncaster Rd;
- the temporary relocation of selected mature
palm trees from the Williamsons Road frontage will occur in mid-January.
The feature trees will be replanted at Westfield Doncaster once the
proposed project is complete;
- various power, water, gas and telecommunications
companies have completed service upgrade and relocation works in and
around the Centre.
Construction activity on-site at Westfield Doncaster
will cease by Friday 22 December and resume on Monday 15 January 2007.
