Council secures grant for innovative bus stop
03 April 2008
Manningham City Council has again successfully
secured grant funding through the Victorian Government's Local Area Access
Program (LAAP), this time to fund the creation of an innovative bus stop
with pedestrian and cycling linkages, that will act also as a community
information hub.
The interchange will be located in the Civic Precinct,
on Doncaster Road, and link with the soon-to-be-implemented SmartBus and
Doncaster Area Rapid Transit (DART) services, as well as cycling trails
and a range of facilities to be included as part of plans for the precinct.
The project aims to assist in reducing car dependency
to, from and around Doncaster Hill and is a partnership between the Victorian
Government and Manningham City Council. The $15,000 grant follows funding
received for projects to upgrade the Doncaster Hill Pedestrian Underpass
and improve pedestrian and cycling links between the Civic Precinct and
Westfield Doncaster.
