Pedestrian friendly Hill takes another step forward
23 October 2008
Eastern Metropolitan MP, Brian Tee, yesterday
announced the completion of works on the Doncaster Hill Pedestrian Underpass
and construction of the shared path linking Precinct 1 to Westfield Doncaster.
The final touches were recently added to the Doncaster
Hill Pedestrian Underpass, with the installation of two stylish canopy
shades that mark the entry to the underpass and provide some shelter from
sun and rain. The underpass runs under Doncaster Road between Doncaster
Primary School and the Doncaster Playhouse on the north side, and the
strip of shops on the south side.
The new shared path has created better linkages
between Precinct 1 and Westfield Doncaster, with widened walking and cycling
paths created behind Doncaster Primary School, and along Council and Goodson
Streets. Directional signage has also been installed at various points
for key sites within Doncaster Hill.
These two projects are designed to make walking
and cycling around Doncaster Hill more inviting, and have helped to improve
the streetscape appeal of the Hill as it transforms into a civic hub for
Manningham.
Council received combined grant funding of more
than $320,00 for the two projects through the State Government's Local
Area Access Program (LAAP).
